How to take Cuttings of Plants and Sell them at Car Boot Sales
Finding a way to make a little bit of extra cash can be very difficult nowadays with fewer people having money to spend to start-up businesses and consumers having less money to buy their stock.
So to commit to a full time business with high start-up costs at the moment is currently ludicrous. However here is an easy, yet very unknown way to make a little bit of extra money while not having to fork out plenty of money or time starting your own business.
As a student, a little bit of money in the back pocket is something you crave, yet never seem to be able to attain. Here is a great idea to help you make some more money at University.
How to take a cutting
Firstly, you need to take a cutting of a plant, which is simply cutting the shoot of a plant about 3 inches below the leaf and then planting a number of these cuttings in a pot.
The success rate of each individual cutting may be quite low; however this is why you take a number of cuttings to increase your chance of success.
Moreover, instead of taking cuttings from the same plant, cuttings should be taken from as many different plants of the same variety as possible, to reduce the chance of getting a plant that is diseased or will not grow properly.
Finally, be sure to take cuttings from the most healthy looking and well grown parts of the plant as they have the greatest success of succeeding as cuttings.
How to sell these cuttings
Selling the cuttings could not be easier, just see where your local car boot sales are and go down to one of them, set yourself up and see what type of plants people are interested in.
It may be a bit slow to begin with, but be sure to ask people what they are looking for and note it down. The chances are if one person is looking for it, then others will be too, as there is no point having 1000 of one plant if no one wants it.
Next be sure to consider the time of year that people will be looking for plants. There is no point going to a car boot sale in December with all of these plants as the simple fact of the matter is that barely anyone buys plants in December. You may have to start growing your plants to take cuttings from before December to prepare to sell the cuttings in the following February-September.
Finally, don’t restrict yourself to just a car boot sale, you could always try local garden centres, friends, relatives and anyone that you can think of who may want a certain plant.
