At Wealthystudent we are always interested in new projects by students or recent graduates and this such one caught
eye. Ed and Ross from BuyMyFace have come up with the idea of selling advertising on their pretty little faces for a whole year in order to pay off their university debt. Why not?!? We thought it was genius so we caught up with them briefly, they are very busy with promotion!
Hey Ed and Ross! So, tell us…which university are you at?
We’ve both just graduated from Cambridge.
Nice…What made you come up with the idea? (Have you both always interested in setting up your own business?)
After running a not-for-profit record label together at uni, we realised that running our own business was something we really enjoyed. The problem was we didn’t have any money to invest, so we had to get creative!
Were you inspired by Alex Tew’s Million Dollar Home Page?
Yes, definitely, along with many other quirky ideas. They demonstrate the power of the Internet, and the importance of a story.
How are you marketing the site?
We started by telling our friends… then they told their friends, and we’re now being approached by lots of different news representatives who want to write stories on us… people seem to find it funny, and newspapers like our story – especially with the rise in uni fees and difficult graduate job climate.
Any advice for those with an idea themselves?
Why not take a gap year and try it out? It’ll be a year to remember whatever happens.
