7 Ways to Search for a Student or Graduate Job

seven1. Write your CV for the search engines.

The world is more digital than ever before, cutting out the need for the human eye to read every single CV. Therefore, it is more increasingly important to use keywords in your summary that are akin to the job you are looking for and the skills you have. Need some help writing your CV?

2. Get Googled.

It’s more than likely that you are going to get Google searched. This means that you need to keep on track of what and isn’t available about you online. See our guide here.

3. Be picky.

Employers don’t want to be bombarded with 1000 applications for one job. They’ll immediately sniff out the applications that reek of speedy, quick, non-motivated type. The key is to be picky, be motivated and do your research to show you are really interested in working for that company. Why do you want to work for them so much? Tell them!

4. An appealing LinkedIn profile.

Employers are using Linkedin to find new recruits and you can find your new job via your network. Therefore, having a fully complete Linkedin profile is another necessity in the digital recruitment world.

5. Getting “offline.”

The majority of people are spending hours and hours online in an effort to find a job. This can pay dividends after a while, but going back to ‘old fashioned’ ways to find a job, can prove even better. Sending speculative letters, cold calling HR managers, networking events and networking through temporary work are all ways you can give yourself the edge when trying to get recruited.

6. “Hire me” campaigns can work.

We’ve all seen this campaign haven’t we? It worked for him, but would you be prepared to do the same thing? If you are looking to get into PR, a stunt like this would work pretty well but you must follow up and make sure you maintain the interest in the company you want to work for.

7. Maintain friendships.

Back in 1955, this is how most people got their job. Individuals kept and maintained a solid network of friends. Help someone to find a student or graduate job and karma will come back to you at some point.
