What makes you different?
We all know the graduate job market it more competitive than ever. If you don’t stand out then you are going to be left out. That’s what Wealthystudent.co.uk is all about, helping you stand out.
The best way to become the person you want to be is to start living by a statement that encapsulates who you want to be. What does being you represent? The aim is to do it in 15 words or less (but don’t get too caught up in the exact word count!).
If your statement doesn’t light up your eyes and ears when you read it, then you need to start again. If it doesn’t grab you, then you’ve got a big problem. Grab a notepad and do an old fashioned brainstorm or a mind map. Ask yourself, what do I want to be known for?
Here are some people we really respect:
Steve Jobs (RIP) – He has given us Apple, Pixar, iTunes, iPhones, iPads and now Ping. You either love or hate Apple and Jobs but you have to respect what he has done for the multimedia and technology industry.
Daniel Ek – Founder of Spotify. Not joined up with Spofity yet? Where have you been? It was obvious that the music industry need a change of though and Daniel was one of the few men that decided to do something about it.
Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant – Writers of two of the most successful comedies ever and the most downloaded audio book ever. We love them. If you haven’t heard their audio book – go here now!
Mark Zuckerberg – Founder of Facebook and an ambitious young man. Now targeting world domination and taking on the likes of Google and Apple in creating the infrastructure of the web.
Simon Cowell – Perhaps not an obvious choice but he had a vision and has made it happen. He got what he wanted by hard work and building contacts to take him where he wanted to be.
Lewis Hamilton – Youngest F1 champion and a man who we really love. Singled-minded from who he was going to be from a young age and continues to improve himself day-by-day.
Jamie Oliver – The cheeky chappy employs over 2,000 staff and is on a world crusade to stop obesity. Awesome.
These people have carved there own personal brand and they live each day by the passion that has got them where they are. It doesn’t mean you have to be or want to be as famous as them, but, it means that you can be as unique as them when it comes to your career.
Ask yourself: What do I do that I am most proud of? What have I accomplished that I can unashamedly talk about? You’ve got to become relentlessly focused on what you do that adds value. What are you most famous for?
If you pull a blank when thinking about this stuff, don’t worry – there’s still plenty of time to sort it out!
Tell us about yourself, what you want to be and how you are going to stand out from the rest in your career.
