Companies to Haggle with – How to get that better deal
Nowadays, every company tries to take advantage of your business with hidden charges and tariffs that will increase prices for services as soon as you’ve given them your credit card details. Unfortunately, you will not be able to go into a supermarket and demand they sell you your bread for 10p cheaper as they will simply tell you to pay the price or you can go elsewhere. They know that nearly everyone will pay the money because it is such a small amount and you’ve taken the effort to go to the supermarket.
Moreover, because it is such a small value purchase, if they lose 1 or 2 customers, it is not of real worry to them. However, when it comes to your satellite television or car insurance, you are in a much better position to haggle. With a click of a few buttons, you can be with another provider who’s offering great introductory discounts, so these companies must fight to hold onto your business.
Sky
Sky television is a great example of this. While currently having the greatest market share in the satellite television market, BT are vying for that position with their recent introduction of BT Sport, the Champions League and the best Premier League games.
Therefore if you get a call from Sky telling you that they are going to put the price up by £10 a month from next month, you can simply say okay, then you can disconnect me and I’ll go to BT. It’s amazing how quickly this Sky representative will just say , ‘let me have a quick talk with the boss’, and suddenly he’s offering you the same service for perhaps just £1 a month extra as they now know that all business is vital to their success.
AA
With AA the story is slightly different. Due to the ease that you can now change car insurance providers online, these providers have to offer deals to both new customers and current customers in an attempt to maximise the amount of money that they are bringing in at the end of the year. If they threaten to increase their prices you can call them and say that you’re just about to switch to another provider and they will try to offer you a variety of deals to try to keep you on board.
Remember that just because it says ‘deal’, it doesn’t make it any cheaper than an offer from another company.
Be sure to shop around when looking for expensive items to try to find the best deal and then haggle with the representatives to try to bring the price down even more. If you have to make empty threats then so be it as companies are rivalling each other for your business, so if they won’t give you a good deal, someone else will.
